Duo Customer Spotlight: Best Buds, Roger Ottwell & Will Solomon

March 18, 2016

This week we have a duo Customer Spotlight; a big shout out to two very talented photographers from the Crestwood Creve Coeur Camera, Roger Ottwell & Will Solomon. Check out these two best buds photography.

Each month we will be highlighting our customers’ passion and talent for photography and Creve Coeur Camera.

What camera(s) do you shoot?

My cameras include the Nikon D300s, D700 and D750.

I use the Nikon D300s and D800, and I still have my first digital camera: the Coolpix 950.

What do you like to shoot?

Many things appeal to me to shoot, but primarily portraits, nature and anything moving fast, such as an airplane. It seems everything has been photographed by someone, but I always look at it as though it is my opportunity to capture what I see. Patience is critical for a great shot, considering lighting, time of year and possible distractions in the shot. Photographing children provides great opportunity, but you have to consider you are now working in their time frame.

I enjoy shooting birds, pets, my granddaughter’s sporting events, flowers, animals at the zoo, parks… just about anything, whether it moves or not.

What got you started in photography?

I purchased my first camera, a Nikon F in 1968 with a 50mm 1.4 lens. For several years I photographed industrial machinery for use in production of technical publication manuals. At the same time I used a flatbed camera for color separation negatives, which were sent to the printer.

In 1965 while in the Air Force, a fellow airman wanted to sell his Brownie Instamatic for $4.00. I bought it from him and never looked back. Over the years I progressed to SLRs and now DSLRs. At one time, even had a darkroom where I processed black & white and also color using the Cibachrome process.

What inspires you?

My inspiration is simply a passion to challenge myself to create the best shot possible.

Life inspires me, as well as my wife, son, daughter-in-law, and especially my granddaughter. I am also inspired by blue skies with big, puffy, white clouds.
