Many interesting photos can be taken in low light situations, either indoors, or outdoors after sundown. Using a tripod is necessary because the main function or all digital cameras is to deliver the best possible exposure depending on the light falling on the subject. Low light will require a tripod or camera support due to the fact that the longer exposures will be blurred if the camera is hand-held. A good trick to employ when a cable release is unavailable is to use the camera's built-in self-timer to activate the exposure. The delay between when the shutter is pushed and when the actual exposure is made is often enough to allow the camera to stop vibrating from the camera being touched and then it will be stable enough to allow sharp, long exposures. This can be an interesting way to take natural light or non-flash photos indoors. If there are people in the photo, they must, of course, be told not to move. |
