LANDSCAPE/PORTRAIT – SETTINGS AND TECHNIQUES
Recommended experience: Intermediate with aperture/shutter program knowledge.
In this three part workshop we will teach you the photography disciplines and rules that professional photographers practice and embrace to excel at their craft. Whether you are an aspiring amateur photographer or want to launch a career as a pro, this workshop is for you.
Session One – 2 hours:
On the first night of the workshop you are instructed to bring your equipment and questions to class as we discuss these topics:
• Camera settings; What aperture, shutter speed and ISO to use for different situations
• Lens choices
• Focus disciplines for portraits and landscapes
• Composition; Negative space, rule of thirds, leading lines and perspective
• Raw capture and the software (Lightroom) advantage
Session Two – 2 hours:
The second session will be held Millennium Park (just east of the CCC Superstore) as we apply the rules and disciplines that we learned in the Session One. Landscape and portrait techniques will be taught and explored as you capture images with the best angle, exposure, focal length and composition. We will be available to give you advice and review your photos after you shoot. This will be a fun two hours giving you a chance to capture your favorite image that we will print and mount in a frame for you to hang at your home of office.
After this session you are to go home and “work” on your images. Then by OCTOBER 10TH AT 6:00 p.m. you are to email the instructor your favorite image from the class.
Session Three – 90 minutes (6 to 7:30 pm):
*Bring your five favorite images on an SD card or USB stick to the class (JPGs only).
We will use the time in this session to review your favorite 5 images (no more or less) and critique them for all of the photography elements we reviewed in the first session. We will give advice and constructive critiques on how to improve your photographs and create images that you will proud to display and share, or sell!
Session 3 continued – 7:30 pm to 8:00 p.m.:
You will be presented with an 8”x10” photo of the image that you sent us. We will mount it in an 11”x14” matted frame and this image will be on display in the store for 30 days. After that it is yours to keep!
Light refreshments will be served during this time. Please bring/invite a friend to attend this session with you.
