Proper Use of White Balance

When taking pictures with NO flash, the overall color of the subject is dictated by the color of the light hitting it. In daylight, or within the range of the flash, the color will be normal with the Automatic White Balance setting. However, if a different light source is the main one on your subject, for instance, Tungsten, or Fluorescent light, the overall color when taken in Automatic White Balance will not be pleasing. The White Balance menu offers many options for telling the camera what color the source light on your subject is, and then delivers a color correct photo which will not require any correction later. Practice with the options in a room where you may not know the actual color of the source light, look at the resulting photos and learn how to correct for them.
